Don Ritchie wore a pair of Tornados to run 100km in just over six hours back in 1978, a record that stood for forty years. This Universal Works edition carries the same name into a softer, more everyday build: a layered upper of 600D Oxford fabric, velour and suede, a pigskin lining for proper ventilation, and Ortholite cushioning over an EVA and RB outsole that keeps things stable underfoot, built with enough of that original endurance pedigree to still feel purposeful on a long day out.
How to measure
Place your foot on top of a sheet of paper with your heel next to the wall and mark the point of the farthest most toe, then measure the distance from the wall. Repeat this procedure for the other foot and compare the measurements against our table.

Norman Walsh had already made running shoes for the 1948 Olympic team and boots for a Cup-winning Bolton Wanderers, but it was watching runners struggle across the Pennines that pushed him to build something genuinely new: the Walsh PB, made with fell-running pioneer Pete Bland in 1970, is credited as the world's first purpose-built fell shoe.
