If you’d rather sleep in a squared-off footbox than a tapered one, the Helium 680 Boxfoot gives you that in a lightweight down bag for hiking and mountaineering trips. Premium muscovy down sits in an ultralight shell with a water-repellent treatment for damp conditions, and arc-shaped baffles keep the loft high. It carries two temperature ratings, -6°C for cold sleepers and -12°C for warm sleepers, so you can check it will work for the way you sleep.

How Do I Dry My Sleeping Bag?
The Do’s
The Don’ts
Ever found yourself halfway up a mountain in gear you wish you hadn’t bought? So did Andrew ‘Monty’ Montgomery. Sick of kit that couldn’t do the one job he’d bought it for, he borrowed a sewing machine in 1978 and made himself a sleeping bag, then a down jacket and a tent. Word travelled fast, and in 1981 he founded Mont in Canberra, Australia. By 1988 it was providing gear for Australia’s Bicentennial Everest climb, and Mont’s kit has since been on ascents of 8000m peaks, polar traverses and ski expeditions across Greenland.
And Mont does all of this while taking responsibility seriously. All of Mont’s down is Responsible Down Standard certified, so the birds are never live-plucked or force-fed. It has partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects since 2020 to restore forest in Honduras, and it’s working towards carbon-neutral status under Australia’s Climate Active programme. The aim is gear that lasts in the harshest conditions on earth while doing as little damage as possible to the places it’s used.
