Over many years of backpacking trips, we've tried all sorts of Heath Robinson solutions to keep our camera protected yet still close at hand for those opportunistic shots. It's a problem that Osprey have solved very elegantly with this lightweight camera chest rig. Featuring a spacer mesh back for optimum ventilation, it comes with its own adjustable harness – but the really clever thing is the way it also integrates with most backpacks. You just attach the upper straps to the load lifters at the top of your pack harness, and the lower straps to the shoulder strap adjusters. Everything is adjustable for a good fit, and the benefit of mounting it on your rucksack is that the pack suspension will help take the weight of your camera gear. If you prefer to carry it at the waist, there are belt loops on the backpanel, plus web loops for an optional shoulder strap. Apart from being comfortable to carry, the camera rig also does a sterling job of protecting pricey gear, with moulded EVA foam that conforms to your camera body and a rain cover for the inevitable downpours.
