Roomy roll-top daypack that's perfect for overnighters

The 36-litre Patagonia Terravia might just be the ideal hut-to-hut pack, but it's also great for winter day-hikes, cheeky summer bivvies and any situation where you need to carry a bit more gear in comfort. Unlike the smaller packs in the Terravia range, this one has an internal frame to support heavier loads – plus a roll-top closure that lets you push the capacity of the pack to the max. By the same token, you can cinch the top right down and pull in the side compression straps to make the whole package more compact if you're not going out fully loaded. You've got piles of organisation, including side bottle pockets, a front stash pocket for wet gear, a couple of zip compartments and quick-access pockets on the belt fins. Breathable airmesh in the straps and back panel keeps you cool on hot days, and if the weather goes the other way, they've thrown in a useful rain cover too.

    • Larger 36-litre day pack with roll-top closure
    • Comfortable, breathable harness
    • Breathable, lightweight airmesh on the raised back panel and the underside of the shoulder straps
    • Roll-top closure expands beyond the pack so you can carry extra gear, and can be rolled down and cinched for lighter loads
    • Internal frame provides lightweight support for carrying a full pack
    • Adjustable hip belt with two pockets
    • Adjustable sternum strap
    • Top pocket at the nape of the neck with a key clip

    How to Measure Torso:

    1. Grab a measuring tape and a buddy. Tuck your chin down and feel for the large bone at the base of your neck. This is the top of your torso measurement.
    2. Find the top of your hip bones. Find the middle point between these two on your lower back. This is the bottom of your torso measurement.
    3. While standing up straight, have a friend measure between the two points to find your correct pack size.

    How to Measure Hips/Waist:

    • 1. Find the top of your hip bones. Use that as your starting point, then wrap the measuring tape around your waist, staying close to the top of your hip bones.

  • Patagonia is the brand that other gear companies want to be when they grow up. In 2022, the company's founder, Yvon Chouinard, famously gave the company to the planet. It’s now jointly controlled by a charitable trust and a not-for-profit dedicated to fighting the climate crisis, and all post-operating profits go to environmental causes.

But in some ways that’s the tip of the (melting) iceberg. For nearly half a century, Patagonia has been an experiment in responsible business. From the farms that grow their cotton to the factories that make their goods and everything in-between, they’ve tried incredibly hard to set the gold standard in terms of ethics, transparency and social responsibility. Not only that, but their gear is made to last – to take hard use and repairs, and to maintain its performance through thick and thin.

All of which is even more extraordinary when you consider that Yvon Chouinard started out blacksmithing climbing gear for his mates in his parents' backyard, using a forge and anvil that he bought from a junkyard.

At WildBounds we don’t usually tend to go for the big-name brands, but this was one we simply couldn’t resist. Quite apart from their amazing ethical and environmental credentials, they just make great gear. We’ve used it and loved it for years, and you will too.
