Most coolbox systems are an afterthought. The Recon is the opposite – a modular, stackable cold storage system from Dometic that's been obsessively engineered around how people actually load a vehicle. The Hardside cooler – injection-moulded rather than rotomoulded, up to 30% lighter, with a lid that opens from either end or comes off entirely – is the anchor piece, available in 16L, 41L and 69L. The Softside ZL stacks directly on top or tucks into footwells, bringing 25mm FrostCore insulation and M.O.L.L.E. loops to the party. Around them sits a full ecosystem of accessories: a divider that doubles as a cutting board, a transparent drop-in basket, reusable ice blocks sized to actually fit, a leakproof transportation tote and a clip-on cup holder. Everything is designed to work together, and most of it ships with the Hardside as standard. Build your setup around a day trip, a long weekend or a month in the van – the system scales.
Flip it. Lift it. Load it up. The lid opens your way, on both sides, then locks into place with the rest of your Recon gear. No more car boot struggling.
Single-touch activation and auto-shut-off mean no wasted water, whilst 150 litres per charge is enough for a long weekend without worrying about the battery.
