Jason Markk's Repel is a water-based, VOC-free stain and water repellent that dries clear and forms a breathable barrier against liquid and dirt, without the PFAS or heavy solvents that leave some repellents stiff or clouded. It's odourless, colourless, and covers leather, suede, nubuck, canvas, nylon and mesh in one continuous mist from the non-aerosol nozzle. Refills are available too, so protecting a pair worth keeping doesn't mean binning plastic every time you run out.
There's a particular kind of guilt in owning a pair of trainers so good you're almost scared to wear them. Jason Markk exists for exactly that dilemma. It started with a simple gripe from founder Jason Mark Angsuvarn: there was still nothing made specifically to clean trainers properly, so people reached for whatever was under the sink instead. His answer was the Premium Shoe Cleaner, a biodegradable formula strong enough to lift dirt from leather, suede and canvas without touching the colour beneath.
That same instinct — do the job properly, without the harsh stuff — runs through the whole range now: a water-based Repel spray that actually works, suede kits, and a refill scheme that means the bottles get reused rather than binned. It's also B Corp certified on top of that, looking after the planet with the same care it gives your shoes.
