First launched in the 1970s, the Räven jacket is a recognisable homage to the legendary M-65 US Army field jacket – a Vietnam-era icon made famous by countless movies including Rocky and Taxi Driver. But while the aesthetics are absolutely on-point, the materials, build quality and cut are way above army surplus. It's made in Fjällräven's super-tough G-1000 polycotton – which can be made more weatherproof with a coating of their washable Greenland wax – while the packaway hood utilises a lighter polyamide/cotton HC-Lite fabric. Two-way zips and a snap-closure wind flap keep the draughts out, and there are cinch cords at waist and hem to streamline the fit. Four roomy pockets have unfussy button flaps, with side-entry to the two lower ones so you can warm your hands.
